Keeping pollutants out of our waterways

3/20/2025 | Posted in: News
Polluted stormwater runoff can be transported to municipal separate storm sewer systems (MS4s) and then discharged into local rivers and streams without treatment.  Common pollutants include oil and grease from roadways, pesticides from lawns, sediment from construction sites, and carelessly discarded trash, such as cigarette butts, paper wrappers, and plastic bottles. When deposited into nearby waterways, these pollutants can impair waterways, thereby discouraging recreation, contaminating drinking water supplies, and degrading the habitat for fish, other aquatic organisms, and wildlife.
It is everyone's responsibility to prevent these pollutants from entering water systems. Regular maintenance of vehicles and equipment, proper disposal of chemicals and waste, responsible use of pesticides and fertilizers, and cleaning up after pets are all imperative. Please help keep our water clean by doing your part!

The City of Weldon Spring has information about on the MS4 Web Page.
