The walking trail around Weldon Spring City Park has experienced many changes this past year. In addition to the new extension, the trail now hosts a Storybook Walking Trail. This fantastic project was coordinated and completed by Kolin Barks as an Eagle Scout project. Working with the St. Charles City-County Library Foundation and the City of Weldon Spring, Kolin planed the installation of 17 Storybook stations. These posts will house pages from a children’s book families will read as they walk along the main loop of the walking trail. Mr. Barks, volunteers, and scouts from Troop 353 installed the stations in mid-November.

The SCC Library Foundation provided the stations and books through a grant for this project. The City of Weldon Spring provided additional funding for construction materials and tools. The City’s Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee recommended this project after seeing the value it offers to the community. The Board of Aldermen approved the project in early September.

The City is very thankful and proud of the projects completed by its community volunteers. The City commends Kolin Barks for his hard work and determination on this project. This project is part of Mr. Barks pursuit for the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement for the Boy Scouts of America. The City is also grateful to the St. Charles City-County Library Foundation for providing the stations and books.
